Saving on Electric Bills | Save on Monthly Bills

When saving on energy bills is a top priority, consider initially resealing your doors and windows. This should ideally be completed every year or two to keep the climate-controlled air inside the home, and you may be able to quickly complete this project yourself. You can also invest in energy-saving light bulbs and appliances. Trust me when I say this really helps save on monthly bills, I replaced all my light bulbs and saved over $50 a month.

Depending on your budget, you can get blackout curtains to block sunlight that would heat up the inside of the house, or you can install solar film on the windows, or even save some money to upgrade to energy-saving windows. No matter what, make sure to keep the thermostat turned warmer when the house will be empty; only use it when people are home and the house needs to be cool. This is just one small way to save on monthly bills.

Reducing Water Bills | Save on Monthly Bills

Just as there are ways to save on electric bills without scaling back how you use energy, there are also ways to reduce water consumption. You can save on water use inside the house and outside, too. Only run the dishwasher or the clothes washer when they are full. Update your water faucets and features to water-saving features.

Don’t let the faucet run when you wash dishes, fruits, and vegetables, toothbrushes, or other items. A low-flow faucet will reduce water usage without affecting the flow of water. You can also use a rainwater collection system to irrigate your lawn, and you should fix any water leaks as soon as you become aware of them. Water is not that expensive but everything counts when trying to save on monthly bills.

Cutting Back on Gas Usage | Save on Monthly Bills

If your home uses gas as an energy source, you should also look for ways to reduce gas consumption. If gas is used to heat and cool your home, many of the electricity-saving tips may be applied to reduce gas consumption. Remember to change out your HVAC filters every 3 months to make sure they aren’t clogged.

Additionally, many homes use gas for cooking purposes. Avoid running the oven or burners unnecessarily long. For example, rather than using gas to keep something warm in the oven for a lengthy period of time, consider using the microwave when you are actually ready to enjoy the heated food.
